Resumen: "The development of the fisheries in Colombia must consider the identification of potential new resources based on knowledge of characteristics of the deep-sea habitats and the organisms which highlight the need for an ecosystem approach to fisheries management (EAF). The objective of this work was to advice management and conservation strategies for the possible new deep-sea crustacean fisheries in the Colombian Caribbean based on an ecosystem approach to fisheries. The management of the shallow shrimp fishery and the potential new deep-sea crustacean fishery should be based on an ecosystem approach that considers an information baseline considering population dynamics and structure and the optimum allocation of catches and effort, as well as the development of monitoring strategies and the care of ecosystems. Open-ocean Marine Protected Areas for the protection of nursery and spawning areas should also be also considered."
